Today we hear a teaching about a dishonest manager, who Jesus then praises, a reminder that we cannot serve two masters, and the story of a rich man and Lazarus. In these teachings, Jesus is using money as part of the illustration to make his point.
Jesus knows that we humans have a tendancy to put money above all else in our lives. In fact, money is one of the top things that he preached about in his ministry. So today we hear how we need to make sure that money does not become our god, as we could very easily let it.
And in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, we are also reminded that our eyes need to be open to those who are around us. Serving one in need is the same as serving Christ.
In what way can you serve a neighbor today?
